Following their historic win over England in the third Test at The Oval, six Sri Lankan players have achieved career-high rankings in the latest ICC Men’s Test Rankings.
Sri Lanka’s triumph marked their first away Test victory against England, with notable performances from captain Dhananjaya de Silva, middle-order batsman Kamindu Mendis, and opener Pathum Nissanka. De Silva scored a stylish 69 in the first innings, elevating him to a career-best 13th place among Test batters. Mendis, who scored a half-century, climbed to 19th, while Nissanka surged 42 spots to 39th after scoring 64 and 127.
England’s Joe Root remains the top-ranked Test batter despite underwhelming scores of 13 and 12, with his rating dropping from 922 to 899, narrowing the gap with competitors like Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, and Steve Smith. Harry Brook also fell to 12th place after scoring 19 and 3.
On a positive note for England, Ollie Pope moved up seven places to 27th after a century, and wicketkeeper Jamie Smith rose six spots to 30th following a quickfire half-century.
In the Test bowler rankings, Sri Lanka’s Vishwa Fernando jumped 13 places to 31st, Lahiru Kumara rose 10 spots to 32nd, and Milan Rathnayake climbed 26 places to 84th. England’s Olly Stone improved to 74th after taking three wickets in the Test.
In T20I rankings, Australia’s Mitch Marsh and Josh Inglis made significant gains, while Adam Zampa moved up to seventh among bowlers. Scotland’s Bradley Currie also saw a notable rise, advancing to 49th in the T20I bowler rankings.
