The Confederation of Schedules Castes and Scheduled Tribes Organisations has urged the Mangaluru City Corporation and Mangaluru Smart City Limited to develop Ambedkar Circle and install a statue of BR Ambedkar in the city.

Former MUDA Chairman Tejomaya criticised lack of development at Jyoti Circle since it was renamed Ambedkar Circle. He termed it a failure to honour Ambedkar, who is globally recognised for his contribution to the Indian Constitution.

Tejomaya dismissed the officials’ claims that the road’s width is insufficient for developing the circle. He told media that the Government Colllege at Balmatta has already provided its land for the development of the road.

Confederation President Lolaksha said they have prepared a development plan for Ambedkar Circle through an architect and submitted it to the Mayor, Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) officials and Deputy Commissioner. The plan includes features like traffic signals, footpaths, zebra crossings, and a designated space for the Ambedkar statue at the centre of the circle.

Smart City officials have indicated that the mayor will chair a meeting with officials and representatives of various organisations on Sept 9 to discuss the proposal for Ambedkar Circle’s development.

Tulunada Rakshana Vedike founder President Yogesh Shetty Jeppu offered to raise funds from donors if there is a shortage of funds for the project, to ensure that the development of the circle is completed.
