Two workers, Puli Kutty and Karthik, died in a blast at a fireworks factory in Srivilliputhur, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday. The explosion caused a fire that destroyed the factory. Firefighters from Sivakasi and Srivilliputhur quickly arrived at the scene. Sivakasi is renowned as India’s fireworks capital, with a turnover of around Rs 6,000 crore and employing about 8 lakh people. The district accounts for 70% of the country’s fireworks production, with 1,070 registered factories.
