A demonstration was held on Monday by the Women’s wing of the District Raitha Sangha in front of the Kolar Chikkaballapur District Cooperative Bank. The protesters carried bricks on their heads and shouted slogans against the district administration. They demanded immediate steps to conduct elections for the bank’s executive body, as directed by the High Court of Karnataka.

Nalini Gowda, President of the District Raitha Sangha Women’s wing, led the protest. She claimed that the district administration had not held the elections despite clear instructions from the High Court. An administrator had been appointed by the State Government, but banking activities had halted, and the bank authorities had not provided financial assistance to women and farmers in the district. The delay in financial aid, she argued, had negatively impacted farming and dairy activities.

Nalini stated that the bank had faced severe financial issues until 2004. However, progress was made once Byalahalli Govinda Gowda became President, allowing the bank to assist farmers and women’s self-help groups. Recently, the bank had begun to show losses due to interference from some individuals, she alleged.
