Minister Shivaraj Thangadagi stated that while efforts are being made to protect farmers’ interests regarding the Tungabhadra reservoir’s crust gate, the BJP is engaging in politics. He criticized the BJP for its criticism instead of offering constructive advice to the state government.

On Monday, at the TB Dam in Munirabad, Thangadagi explained that restoration work on the gate had started after consulting with a team of two technicians. One design suggested that around 60 TMC of water needs to be released for the work, while another proposed lowering the gate to conserve water and prevent loss. In the interest of farmers, the state is considering repairing the gate to save water, and a new design involving five gate plates that can work in water has been prepared. Discussions on this design have been held with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, who indicated that about 25 TMC of water could be saved.

The Tungabhadra Dam is managed by the Tungabhadra Board, which is currently under the Central Government’s control. Thangadagi suggested that state BJP leaders should urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to oversee the dam’s management. He also noted that the state government had allocated funds for guarantee schemes but had not received money for the Navali parallel reservoir. He criticized BJP MPs Jagdish Shettar, Basavaraja Bommai, and MLA Janardhana Reddy for accusing the state government of failure.
