Despite good rainfall in the state, 67% of the lakes remain unfilled. Aam Aadmi Party State President Mukya Mantri Chandru criticized the state government for neglecting the lakes, which are essential for agriculture. He called the failure to use water efficiently a serious mistake.

Chandru also addressed the media regarding the broken 19th gate of the Tungabhadra dam. He described the situation as unfortunate and mentioned that repairs would take 4-5 days. The broken gate will lead to the release of 50-60 TMC of water, reducing storage to 45-50 TMC. He noted that this would cause significant losses for farmers.

Chandru highlighted that the issues stem from both accidental damage and government negligence. He expressed concern over the state’s failure to fill the lakes. The state has 41,000 lakes, primarily managed by the Rural Development, Panchayat Raj, and Water Resources Departments. Although MGNREGA funding was used for lake maintenance and silt removal, over 30% of the lakes are still not fully filled. Chandru questioned whether the work under MGNREGA was properly completed.
