Indian shooter Swapnil Kusale secured a spot in the final of the men’s 50m 3P event at the Paris Olympics by finishing seventh in the qualification round on Wednesday. Kusale, making his Olympic debut, scored 590-38x to advance. His teammate, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, placed 11th with 589-33x, missing out on the final.
China’s Liu Yukun set a new Olympic record in qualification with a score of 594-38x. The final will be held on Thursday, where India hopes to add a third medal to its tally. Previously, India earned two medals: Bhaker won bronze in the women’s individual 10m Air Pistol event, and Manu-Sarabjot secured bronze in the mixed team event by defeating South Korea’s Lee Wonho and Oh Ye Jin 16-10.
Manu Bhaker’s bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol was India’s first in this Olympics, marking a significant achievement for her, especially after her pistol malfunctioned at the Tokyo Olympics. She became the first Indian woman in 20 years to reach an Olympic shooting final since Suma Shirur in 2004.
South Korea’s Ye Jin won gold with an Olympic record of 243.2 points, and Kim Yeji took silver with 241.3 points. Manu Bhaker will next compete in the 25m pistol event, aiming for her third Olympic medal.
