Golaghat
Before Lovlina Borgohain’s opening match in the women’s 75kg boxing category at the Paris Olympics, her village in Assam’s Golaghat gathered for prayers and rituals at a local temple to wish her success. Lovlina is set to face Norway’s Sunniva Hofstad in her debut bout.
Lovlina’s father, Tiken Borgohain, is confident in his daughter’s abilities. He expressed optimism about her performance, noting that the rigorous training she has undergone since the Tokyo Olympics will be crucial. Lovlina’s first match in Paris is against Norway. Given her preparation and experience, especially from Tokyo, we expect her to perform strongly and achieve excellent results, he said.
He also extended his gratitude to the Assam government for their support. Lovlina has trained in Patiala with other athletes and also spent time training in Italy and Germany before heading to Paris. Her father acknowledged the significant roles played by her coach, the federation, and the team manager in providing top-notch training.
Although they have not spoken recently, her father mentioned that Lovlina might be too busy to talk today as she focuses on final preparations and checking her weight.
