Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen has secured a place in the pre-quarters at the Paris Olympics after defeating Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie 21-18, 21-12 on Wednesday. The match, held at La Chapelle Arena, lasted 50 minutes. Sen took an early lead of 8-2 in the first game and maintained his performance to win the second game decisively.
This victory ensured Sen’s advancement to the pre-quarters and secured his top position in Group L. He may face HS Prannoy in the Round of 16, which begins today.
Earlier in the tournament, Sen had won against Belgium’s Julien Carraggi 21-19, 21-14 on Monday. Despite trailing by four points in the first game, Sen came back to win, controlling the second game to secure the match.
However, Sen’s earlier win against Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon was nullified after Cordon withdrew from the Olympics due to a left elbow injury. The BWF removed the match result, and Sen’s ranking will be based on his performance in the remaining Group L matches.
On Saturday, Sen had also defeated Cordon 21-8, 22-20, rallying from a deficit in the second game in a match that lasted 42 minutes.
