India’s coal production has surged by 10.70% year-on-year for the fiscal year 2024-25, marking a significant advancement in the country’s energy sector. The Ministry of Coal, following the Prime Minister’s directive for a unified strategy, has coordinated with the Ministries of Railways and Power, among others, to ensure a reliable and affordable coal supply for industries such as steel, cement, paper, and sponge iron.

For 2024-25, the Ministry has set an ambitious goal of producing 1,080 million tonnes (MT) of coal. By July 19, 2024, production reached 294.20 MT, compared to 265.77 MT at the same time last year. This increase reflects the Ministry’s commitment to meeting diverse energy needs while supporting sustainable economic growth.

Coal dispatch also saw an increase, with 311.48 MT sent out by July 19, 2024, an 8.49% rise from the previous year’s 287.12 MT. This growth supports key industries and stabilizes the energy market.

The Ministry is focused on maintaining an affordable and accessible coal supply across all sectors, reinforcing India’s economic development goals. By ensuring a steady supply, the Ministry of Coal aims to enhance the country’s energy security and support essential economic sectors.
