Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy announced on Wednesday that there are no intentions to privatize the Singareni Collieries Company in Telangana. Instead, efforts will focus on strengthening the company. Singareni Collieries is jointly owned by the Telangana government and the Union government, with coal reserves spanning 350 kilometers in the Pranahita Godavari Valley.

Addressing the Lok Sabha during the Question Hour, Minister Reddy reiterated that there are no plans to privatize any coal mines, including Singareni Collieries. He was responding to concerns raised by Congress member Vamsi Krishna Gaddam, who argued against privatization.

According to the company’s website, Singareni Collieries boasts proven geological reserves of 8,791 million tonnes. The company operates 17 opencast and 22 underground mines across six districts in Telangana and employs approximately 42,000 people. The Telangana government holds a 51% stake in the company, with the remaining shares owned by the Union government.
