CM Stalin visits rain-hit areas, distributes relief supplies

On Thursday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin assessed the damage caused by heavy rainfall in Chennai’s Kolathur Assembly Constituency and distributed relief supplies to affected residents. He assured that the Tamil Nadu government is fully prepared to handle any situation that arises due to the rains, stating, Precautionary measures have been implemented across the state.

DMK leader TKS Elangovan highlighted the swift receding of floodwaters, crediting the government’s efforts over the past two years. He pointed out that prolonged rain can lead to challenges, recalling the severe floods during Jayalalitha’s tenure in 2015. With heavy rainfall, issues are inevitable. However, this time, the water receded quickly, showcasing the effectiveness of our actions, he added. Elangovan also noted that all DMK ministers were actively involved in assessing the situation and delivering aid.

Chennai experienced heavy rainfall early Thursday, with areas like Kathivakkam receiving 23 cm and Cholavaram 30 cm. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that a depression over the Bay of Bengal has weakened into a low-pressure area and is expected to move west-northwest. On Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, along with party leaders, distributed relief to sanitation workers, ensuring no rainwater is stagnating in Chennai. He thanked the public and sanitation workers for their cooperation in managing the situation.
