The Congress party criticized the Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday, labeling the Bahraich encounter as fake. They attributed the violence in the area to failures in governance and administration. Earlier, police shot two suspects, Sarfaraz and Mohammad Talib, in the legs while they allegedly attempted to escape to Nepal.

Ajay Rai, UP Congress President, claimed that the government has been orchestrating fake encounters to cover up its shortcomings. Congress MP Imran Masood emphasized the need to hold accountable those responsible for the recent violence, saying, Rioters who burned shops must also be punished. There should be consequences for those who misbehaved with women.

Congress leader Avinash Pandey stated that encounters have become too frequent in the state, calling the situation in Bahraich unfortunate. He stressed that it was the administration’s responsibility to restore order. Aradhana Misra-Mona also expressed concern, saying the incident could have been avoided with better vigilance from the authorities.

Samajwadi Party leader Ravidas Mehrotra echoed these sentiments, blaming the government for the violence, arson, and looting in Bahraich. He stated that the police and administration failed to act, allowing chaos to unfold.

Amitabh Yash, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), reported that five suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, while the injured suspects are receiving medical attention.
