New York

Jessica Pegula, from the United States, had a rocky start in her first Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open. Facing Karolina Muchova from the Czech Republic, Pegula initially struggled, losing the first set 1-6 and falling behind in the second. However, she made an impressive comeback, winning the next two sets 6-4, 6-2. This victory earned Pegula a spot in the final at Flushing Meadows. At 30 years old and seeded sixth, Pegula has now won 15 of her last 16 matches. She will compete against the second seed Aryna Sabalenka for the championship on Saturday. Sabalenka reached the final after defeating the 13th seed Emma Navarro 6-3, 7-6 (2). Sabalenka was last year’s runner-up to Coco Gauff.

In the men’s singles quarterfinals, Italian star Jannik Sinner advanced to the US Open semifinals by beating Russian Daniil Medvedev. Sinner won the match 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 in a contest that lasted two hours and 39 minutes at Arthur Ashe Stadium. This victory marks Sinner’s third major semifinal appearance this season. The 23-year-old Italian initially dominated the first set but faltered in the second before making a strong comeback in the final two sets. Sinner’s powerful shots and strategic play helped him secure his place in the semifinals.
