BBMP seals Indiranagar eateries over hygiene issues

Must read

In response to public complaints, two eateries in Indiranagar were sealed by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) . Officials from the BBMP’s health department inspected the establishments and found them to be lacking in hygiene standards, particularly noting unclean conditions and stagnant water in their basements.

We observed unhygienic conditions and stagnant water in the basement. Therefore, we issued a notice to them and closed down the establishments, stated a senior BBMP official.

The eateries have been slapped with a fine of Rs 25,000 each. They will be permitted to resume operations only after paying the penalty and demonstrating compliance with hygiene regulations.

Local residents expressed dissatisfaction, pointing out that the eateries had misleadingly claimed closure due to power issues rather than acknowledging the hygiene-related shutdown.

The BBMP should take stringent measures and post closure notices on their doors. It’s crucial for them to lead by example with decisive action. The establishments are attempting to conceal the truth, and if the BBMP fails to disclose their faults, it sets a wrong precedent, remarked Sneha Nandihal from I Change Indiranaga

In response, BBMP officials affirmed that they were acting in accordance with legal provisions and regulatory norms.
