Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar remarked that due to substantial rainfall in the state, the court’s directive on Cauvery water distribution is being adhered to, ensuring the welfare of farmers. Speaking to reporters at the Bharat Jodo Hall of the KPCC office on Saturday, Shivakumar highlighted the ongoing management of water resources.
Efforts are underway to utilize the rainfall effectively, with plans to potentially divert excess water to fill lakes beneficially for farmers. The exact amount of water expected remains uncertain, necessitating deliberations with the Agriculture Department before deciding on planting schedules, particularly for rice.
Preventative measures have been implemented, including suspending boating activities at various sites like Ranganathittu, and issuing red alerts for areas near streams. The heavy rain has posed challenges, including an incident involving a Kerala-based driver and vehicle sliding off a hill, complicating clearance operations.
Shivakumar acknowledged the prompt response of state officials, ministers, legislators, and leaders who are actively engaged in relief efforts. He addressed former Chief Minister Kumaraswamy’s visits to affected areas, noting the importance of focusing on humanitarian assistance over political discussions. Shivakumar emphasized that necessary instructions were relayed through video conferences to ensure efficient government response and coordination.
He stressed the government’s commitment to handling its responsibilities effectively amidst the ongoing crisis, emphasizing the need to prioritize public safety above all else.
