In a noteworthy development, senior journalist Ayesha Khanam has been appointed as the President of Karnataka Media Academy by the government. KV Prabhakar, Media Adviser to the Chief Minister, proposed Ayesha Khanam’s name during discussions on the appointment, expressing this suggestion directly to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. This decision marks the first time a woman from a minority community has been appointed to lead the Media Academy, addressing a longstanding gap in representation. Prabhakar emphasized that Ayesha’s origins in Kalaburagi district of Kalyan Karnataka would also promote social justice, regional equity, and gender equality.
The Chief Minister endorsed Prabhakar’s recommendation and instructed the issuance of an order appointing Ayesha Khanam, citing her as the most deserving candidate among several considered for the position. Additionally, the government appointed Ahobalapathy from Chitradurga, K Venkatesh, a press photographer from Bangalore, and K Ningajja, a senior journalist from Koppal, as members of the Academy.
Ayesha Khanam’s appointment as President represents a significant milestone, marking the first time a senior woman from a minority community with a strong professional background assumes this role in the Media Academy.
