London

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner delivered a thrilling performance on Court 1, defeating the formidable 14th seed Ben Shelton 6-2, 6-4, 7-6(9) to advance to the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the third consecutive year. This achievement makes the 22-year-old the first Italian man in history to reach the last eight at Wimbledon three times.

In a match lasting two hours and eight minutes, Sinner showcased his dominance, particularly in rallies of zero to four shots where he outplayed Shelton 81-62. Despite Shelton’s strong start and control early on, Sinner regained momentum with aggressive shot-making, ultimately breaking Shelton’s serve and controlling pivotal moments.

Reflecting on his victory, Sinner expressed his satisfaction with closing out the match in straight sets amidst a vibrant atmosphere. That was a very tough match, especially the third set. These matches can go very long, so I’m very happy to close it out in three sets in such an amazing atmosphere, he remarked post-match.

Next up for Sinner is a highly anticipated quarterfinal clash against fifth-seeded Daniil Medvedev. The Italian’s path to the quarterfinals has been marked by strategic play and resilient performances, setting the stage for an exciting showdown at the Grand Slam stage.

Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz also impressed, overcoming Ugo Humbert 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 to secure his spot in the quarterfinals, marking another milestone in his burgeoning career on the major circuit.
