In a groundbreaking initiative, the traffic police have signed an agreement with the Bengaluru Apartment Federation (BAF) to provide real-time traffic alerts directly to residents of apartment complexes. This initiative is expected to benefit over 1.5 million citizens living and working in the city.
The collaboration aims to assist residents in planning their travel routes more efficiently by offering timely updates on traffic conditions. The agreement also emphasizes the importance of time management, traffic congestion awareness, and public cooperation, particularly among the youth.
‘Real-time traffic information and AI-based alerts will be shared through the BAF app,’ explained a police officer. ‘This will enable residents to plan their journeys more effectively based on the alerts. Our traffic police also participate in cluster meetings to provide training and awareness about road safety and traffic rules, offering hyperlocal updates and traffic alerts within a 5-kilometer radius of the apartments.’
According to a BAF official, live traffic alerts will be disseminated to federation members via mobile applications, websites, and WhatsApp channels. The federation has categorized over 1,300 apartments into 18 clusters, where regular meetings are held to discuss local traffic issues with traffic police. Furthermore, awareness programs targeting children and youth will be organized to educate them about traffic rules, guidelines, and civic responsibilities. Vikram Rai, president of BAF, stated that this partnership aims to find solutions to reduce traffic congestion in the city through public participation.
