Drug addiction, illegality, and social unrest can only be addressed by changing people’s mindsets, according to Senior Civil Judge P.F. Doddamani. He emphasized the importance of public cooperation in achieving social harmony during the inauguration of an awareness program organized by various local authorities on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Doddamani noted that drug trafficking has evolved into a profession for some anti-social elements, despite the presence of law enforcement agencies. Effective control of such crimes requires collaboration between the public and law enforcement. He highlighted the rising incidents of human trafficking and illegal sales, stressing the need for awareness campaigns in educational institutions, associations, organizations, and women’s groups.
District Superintendent of Police Dr. Gopal Bakoda underscored the destructive impact of drug addiction on individuals’ lives and urged the public and students to report illegal activities promptly to the 112 helpline.
Dr. Shashi Patila, District Health Officer, mentioned the department’s efforts in organizing awareness programs for youth and students. He pointed out the establishment of de-addiction and counseling centers in government hospitals aimed at helping drug addicts recover psychologically. These initiatives aim to combat drug-related issues through education, public involvement, and accessible support services.
