India’s G20 Sherpa, Amitabh Kant, led the Indian delegation at the 3rd G20 Sherpas Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X stating, India’s G20 Sherpa amitabhk87 led the Indian delegation to the 3rd G20 Sherpas Meeting in Rio de Janeiro.
During the meeting, Kant underscored the importance of focusing on economic growth, sustainable development, finance, and energy transition, aligning with the priorities set by the Brazilian G20 Presidency. The MEA highlighted these points, underscoring India’s stance on global economic issues and sustainable practices.
Earlier in March, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) for G20, Abhay Thakur, participated in the G20 Development Working Group Meeting in Brasilia. Thakur highlighted India’s successful implementation of DPI-enabled national programs across sectors such as rural development, social welfare, women’s empowerment, education, and healthcare.
Brazil currently holds the G20 presidency from December 1, 2023, to November 30, 2024. The upcoming G20 Leaders’ Summit is scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro from November 18-19, gathering leaders from the 19 member countries along with representatives from the African Union and the European Union.
The G20 comprises 19 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Russia, Turkey, the UK, and the US. Additionally, it includes two regional bodies, the African Union and the European Union, focusing on global economic cooperation and policy coordination.
