A team of international water resources experts commenced their visit to the Polavaram project site in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, initiating a comprehensive study aimed at addressing damaged sections of the extensive irrigation project spanning the Godavari River.

Hailing from the United States and Canada, the four-member team arrived in Rajahmundry on Saturday evening following discussions with officials from the Central Water Resources Department in New Delhi. Their primary objective during their stay, lasting until July 3, is to conduct a thorough examination of the project’s design integrity.

On Sunday, the experts engaged in detailed inspections of critical components such as the diaphragm wall, two cofferdams, and the guide bund. Post their on-site evaluations, they are scheduled to convene review meetings with both project officials and representatives of the construction firms involved.

According to official statements, the involvement of these foreign experts was necessitated by the need to accurately assess the actual loss incurred by the project over the past five years, attributed to purportedly flawed decisions of the previous administration. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, while addressing concerns over the project’s status, emphasized the government’s commitment to leveraging international and domestic expertise to overcome existing challenges and optimize Polavaram’s potential benefits.

These developments underscore the critical role of international collaboration in ensuring the effective management and restoration of essential infrastructure projects.
