Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of distributing fake OBC certificates to pander to a specific vote bank. Maurya’s remarks came after the Kolkata High Court invalidated these certificates, stating that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) would lose power in West Bengal due to widespread support for the BJP.
Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claim of being divinely sent by suggesting that if he truly believes it, a temple could be built for him on the condition that he stops causing trouble for the country.
The Calcutta High Court’s decision on May 22 invalidated all OBC certificates issued in West Bengal since 2010, affecting government job applications. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that religious-based reservation is unconstitutional, denouncing the BJP’s stance against Muslim reservation.
Adityanath criticized the TMC for including 118 Muslim castes in the OBC category in 2010, applauding the High Court’s action. He also condemned similar efforts in Bihar, asserting that the BJP opposes any Muslim reservation to safeguard the rights of SC, ST, and OBC communities, which are protected by the constitution.
