The Delhi High Court rebuked the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday for failing to install CCTV cameras along Bhishma Pitamah Marg in the national capital and urged the civic agency to take corrective action. Criticizing the MCD for its lack of initiative in addressing the situation, the court emphasized the need for accountability.
During the hearing of a petition filed by Martin Geomin George regarding issues of indiscriminate garbage dumping, stray cattle presence, and illegal loading and unloading of goods on the Kotla Mubarakpur-Defence Colony Road, the court highlighted the importance of addressing these concerns promptly.
Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, representing the petitioner, pointed out the risks associated with waste dumping near electrical transformers, emphasizing the potential fire hazard in the area.
The court and lawyers discussed various solutions, including installing CCTV cameras to monitor illegal activities and impounding stray cattle. Additionally, fines for littering and stricter enforcement of regulations were proposed to mitigate the problem.
Despite the petitioner’s efforts, including filing an RTI query and submitting a representation in April, the authorities have yet to respond or take action on the matter. The court directed the MCD and Delhi Police to address the pending representation within four weeks, stressing the urgency of resolving the issues affecting the area.
