Residents of Whitefield have lodged complaints with the Joint Commissioner of Mahadevpura Zone, alleging that builders are disregarding BBMP bylaws by conducting construction activities at night. Sandeep Anirudhan, an activist, highlighted instances of construction and noise pollution along ECC Road and Whitefield Road around 7 pm on Monday. Despite notifying the police, no action was taken.
Anirudhan referenced a Karnataka High Court order from 2012, which stipulates that construction with noise can only occur between 8 am and 6 pm, provided there are no objections. However, in this recent incident, construction persisted until 1 am on Tuesday. Anirudhan expressed suspicion that the builder may have political connections and urged top officials to investigate and take appropriate action.
Responding to the complaints, K Dakshayini, Joint Commissioner of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), highlighted that jurisdictional officials must address violations. She pledged to instruct local engineers to inspect the area and coordinate with the police to resolve the issue.
A senior police official from the Whitefield zone affirmed their commitment to investigating the matter. The official stated that BBMP engineers would be accompanied to the site for further examination.=
The construction schedule, as per a High Court order, permits works from 6 am to 8 am and from 8 am to 6 pm without disturbing residents. Activities that do not disturb residents are also allowed from 6 pm to 10 pm. However, no construction works are permitted between 10 pm and 6 am. In case of violations of the Noise Pollution Rules, 2000, residents are urged to dial 112 or 100 for police assistance or contact the BBMP control room or zonal office.
