Commuters relying on Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) services near Mantri Square Circle are voicing concerns over the continued absence of a reinstated bus shelter, following its removal for a beautification initiative.
Despite the completion of the project and the installation of a statue honoring former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, the lack of a bus shelter remains a glaring issue. Regular travelers in the area are urging the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to promptly erect a shelter in the newly enhanced zone to improve their waiting experience.
Enduring the sweltering heat while awaiting buses has become intolerable for many commuters. The unpredictability of bus arrival times exacerbates the discomfort, particularly with the impending arrival of the rainy season. While seating arrangements are sufficient, the addition of an overhead shelter is imperative to shield them from inclement weather conditions.
Expressing frustration, a commuter highlighted the irony of constructing a statue without including a basic necessity like a bus shelter, labeling it as an absolute misuse of tax money.
Previous reports had flagged the issue during the BBMP’s beautification project, which coincided with the removal of the white-topped road in the vicinity. Commuters criticized the lack of foresight in planning, stressing the need for better coordination to minimize inconvenience during such endeavors.
