Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) Chairman V Ram Prasath Manohar announced the adoption of an AI-based advanced groundwater monitoring system for the city. This decision came following a meeting with scientists from the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) and officials from the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) at the Water Board’s headquarters on Monday.

The initiative includes the formation of a “Ground Water Task Force” comprising experts from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, IISC, CWGB, and Karnataka Ground Water Authority. This task force will ensure continuous monitoring of the city’s groundwater levels.

Manohar highlighted the importance of technological intervention to address the challenges posed by declining groundwater levels.

The AI based system will provide real-time data on groundwater levels, helping in targeted problem management and resolution.

IISC scientists will lead the development and deployment of AI and IoT technology for the monitoring system. This technology will enable data collection, analysis, and reporting, facilitating informed decision-making for groundwater management.

Shekhar M from IISC, Associate Professor LN Rao, CGWB Regional Director Jyoti Kumar, and scientists HP Jayaprakash and Rahul were present.
