Eight Convicted For Communal Murders

First Additional District and Sessions Judge HS Mallikarjuna Swamy convicted eight persons in two separate cases of communal murders.
Providing details, Public Prosecutor Judith OM Crasta said that the Court has convicted Vijeth Kumar (22) Kiran (24), Anish alias Dhanu (23) and Abhi alias Abhijith (24) in these cases.

She said Mohammed Naseer succumbed to his injuries on August 7, 2015, after him along with Mohammed Mustafa, were grievously attacked with a sword, while travelling in an autorickshaw from Melkar to Mudipu on August 6, 2015.

The accused were bike-borne. On August 5, 2015, four to five youths from the Muslim community had allegedly assaulted Vijeth Kumar and Abhi at Alabe in Kolnad. Enraged over it, they conspired to murder a youth from the other community. Then Inspector KU Belliappa submitted a charge sheet to the Court, and the Court examined 29 witnesses and 40 documents. The accused were convicted on Monday, and the court will pronounce the quantum of punishment on April 16.
In another case, following communal tension between Hindus and Muslims at Mogaveerapatana in the Ullal police station limits, Rajesh Kotian alias Raja 44, who was walking alone on Kotepura road for fishing, was bludgeoned to death by smashing his face with a stone, and assaulted with a wooden log on April 4, 2016.
The accused are Mohammed Asif alias Achi (23), Mohammed Suhail alias Suhail (20), Abdul Muthalif alias Muthu (20), Abdul Asweer alias Acchu (19) and two persons in conflict with the law.

The allegations against all four, barring minors, have been proven. The accused had conspired to murder a person from the other community. Ullal Inspector Ashok had submitted a chargesheet before the court. The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on April 15.
