Ullal Police have registered a case against an unknown person, who posed as a Lokayukta police officer and demanded a bribe from a Revenue official.
Purushothama is a Revenue Officer at Someshwara Town Municipal Council and is serving in the flying squad for the Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency. While on duty, the caller allegedly introduced himself as a Lokayukta Police officer on a WhatsApp call.

The caller informed that the Lok Ayukta had received a complaint against him and then transferred the call to his officer. He demanded Rs 80,000 via PhonePe to settle the case.
When Purushotham allegedly informed the caller that he had not received his salary for the last nine months, the caller asked him to pay Rs 50,000 and even threatened dire consequences if he failed to pay the amount. The Truecaller app identified the caller as D Prabhakar, Lok Ayukta Police Inspector.
Later, Purushotham inquired with the Mangaluru Lokayukta and realised that there was no officer by the name of D Prabhakar.
In fact, Someshwara Town Municipal Council’s Senior Health Inspectors, Lilly Nair and R Krishna too had received similar threat calls, Purushotham stated in his complaint.
