Severe drought has left farmers in distress, with political leaders seemingly more focused on power struggles than finding solutions. Kuruburu Shantakumar, State President of the Sugarcane Growers’ Association, voiced concern during a press conference following the Compassion of Drought Distressed Farmers’ meeting. He criticized political leaders for neglecting farmers’ needs amidst their quest for power. Shantakumar urged farmers to reject political candidates and limit their access to villages. The state is grappling with drinking water shortages, affecting both humans and cattle, yet officials appear preoccupied with elections. The agriculture sector is suffering as crops wither and tube wells run dry due to the harsh drought conditions. Shantakumar suggested prioritizing the revival of lakes and dams over building extravagant structures in villages. President of the State Farmers’ Association Choonappa Pujari and other farmer leaders were present at the event. This call for action highlights the urgent need for political leaders to address the pressing issues facing farmers rather than engaging in power struggles.
