Former Indian Men’s Hockey Team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, who recently retired, has been nominated for the FIH Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year Award 2024. This recognition comes after his outstanding performance at the Paris Olympics, where he helped India secure the Bronze medal, marking the first time in over 50 years that the country achieved back-to-back Olympic medals since 1972.

Reflecting on his nomination, Sreejesh expressed his pride and gratitude, saying, I am truly honored to be nominated for this award. During the Olympics, Sreejesh showcased his skills, particularly in the intense quarterfinal against Great Britain. Despite India being down to ten players after a red card, his crucial saves in the penalty shootout secured a 4-2 victory and a place in the semifinals. He emphasized that every save he made was about the entire team and their supporters, highlighting the collective spirit of their journey.

With a career spanning 18 years and over 300 matches, Sreejesh has earned numerous accolades, including the FIH Goalkeeper of the Year award in 2021 and 2022. As he reflects on his legacy, he thanks his teammates, coaches, and fans for their unwavering support throughout his remarkable journey in hockey.
