The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on Friday that the heavy rain warning level has been raised from “interest” to “caution” due to a torrential rain advisory affecting the central and southern regions, including Jeju Island.

In response, the government has activated “Level One” of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters’ emergency response plan. All relevant authorities have been instructed to implement safety precautions, such as preventing landslides, flooding in underground areas, and other potential rain-related hazards, according to a report by sources.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) reported that as of Friday afternoon, heavy rain, exceeding 30 millimeters per hour, was falling in the southern Jeolla and central Chungcheong provinces, as well as Jeju.

The KMA predicts that these regions could receive more than 150 mm of rainfall by Sunday, accompanied by strong winds. In mountainous areas of Gangwon Province, precipitation could reach up to 300 mm. The government has urged citizens to stay alert and take necessary precautions to avoid damage during this period of intense weather.
