Court Complex To Get Another Building

Mangaluru

The state cabinet, in its meeting held on March 14, has given administrative sanction for the construction of Block A at a cost of Rs 60.2 crore, said Prithviraj Rai, President of the Mangalore Bar Association.
He stated that the District Court Complex at Court Hill has nearly 26 Courts, and the Court Complex needs more facilities, considering the addition of new methods of alternative justice delivery systems, fresh types of litigation, implementation of digital technology, the necessity to create new courts and provide better facilities for lawyers, litigants, and so on.

Additionally, the permanent Lok Adalat, functioning in Mangaluru in a rented premise, needs to be shifted to the court complex for the convenience of litigants as well as advocates.
To mitigate the existing issue, the HC has approved the construction of multi-storey buildings at the court complex to accommodate more court halls, bar association facilities, PP office, ADR centre, permanent Lok Adalat and DLSA.
Rai said that the registrar general, HC, as per letters dated January 31 and February 16, 2024, had communicated to the state government to accord administrative sanction for the construction of additional buildings at the Court Complex, Court Hill. The proposed project, worth Rs 123 crore, had two blocks, but the government has only sanctioned Block A, which will have five floors.

The fifth floor will consist of a recreated old principal district and sessions judge court hall with a tiled roof, which is part of the museum.
At present, the Court premise is facing an acute shortage of parking spaces, and lack of auditorium.
