The incident in which the villagers chased and captured a leopard that appeared in the village took place in Kote Mallur village of Honnali taluk of the district. It is known that some people hit the leopard with stones and sticks while chasing it.
A leopard that appeared in the village for the last three or four days had created fear among the people. Recently, four people were also attacked. People were tired of this. Some people from Kote Mallur village saw that the maize field was flooded again. Apart from being immediately chased, some even beat with sticks and stones, captured and handed over to the Forest Department.
A team of forest department officials from Honnali zone visited the village and rescued wild animals. Glucose was administered to the sedated and tired leopard.
The leopard was not harmed. After it calmed down and got tired, it was captured by the villagers. It was infected and treated by local doctors. Further treatment is required, expected to be coming from Shivamogga. District Forest Officer Shashidhar has also responded to this.
