Opposition Of Farmer Leaders To Experimental Explosion In Babybetta, Chaos In Minister Chaluvarayaswamy’s Meeting

KRS Reservoir is the lifeline of farmers of district, people of Bengaluru city. Mining is strictly prohibited in Babybetta to avoid endangering such a reservoir. But in the wake of the High Court order, the district administration has decided to conduct a trial blast in Babybetta. The farmers’ association   strongly opposed to this. The district administration has decided to do trail blast after identifying a location in Babybetta of Pandavpur taluk of the district. But many organisations, including the farmers’ union, which have expressed opposition to this, are saying that no such order has been issued by the High Court. Also, protesting against the trail blast on March 5, they protested near the Brindavan Gate of KRS and held Goback movement.

The meeting held at the Zilla Panchayat Hall under the leadership of Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy was attended by MLA Darshan Puttannaiah, MP Sumalatha Ambarish, district administration officials, irrigation department officials and farmers leaders.   Minister N. Chaluvarayaswamy, who first sought the opinion of the farmers’ leaders, told about the court order regarding the trail blast. The District Collector himself read the order from the High Court. This led to a ruckus in the meeting. Addressing the farmers, the Minister promised, Government is committed to protect the interest of the reservoir and we will talk to the Advocate General as per the order of the High Court and take whatever action is required.
