In a concerted effort to curb the spread of monsoon-related illnesses, the Tamil Nadu government has organized a record-breaking 16,516 special medical camps, providing treatment to 7.83 lakh individuals. Health Minister Ma Subramanian emphasized the historic significance of these medical camps, stating that such extensive initiatives have never been undertaken before in the state. The camps have effectively controlled diseases like dengue, chikungunya, and malaria, all of which are mosquito-borne viral infections.

The Health Minister expressed satisfaction with the continuous medical camps, noting that dengue fever is under control, and instances of chikungunya and malaria have also been contained this year. On Chief Minister MK Stalin’s directive, seven private hospitals have collaborated in conducting medical camps along the banks of the River Adayar, particularly in the Saidapet area.

Furthermore, a comprehensive review meeting was conducted to assess solid waste management, sanitation, and public health in the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung-induced floods in Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Kanchipuram districts. Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena highlighted the focus on clearing slush and solid waste deposited on the streets promptly.

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar, emphasizing the central government’s commitment to supporting the state, urged the Tamil Nadu government to investigate the delayed water runoff after Cyclone Michaung. Chandrashekhar visited Tamil Nadu to assess the cyclone’s impact, distributing relief materials to affected individuals in Chennai. Chief Minister MK Stalin had previously sought immediate interim relief of Rs 5060 crore and requested a central team to assess the cyclone’s damages. The central government has already released nearly Rs 1000 crore in two installments for Chennai’s aid.
