In a blow to Pakistans cricket team, leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed has been sidelined from the upcoming first Test against Australia, set to commence in Perth on December 14. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revealed that off-spinner Sajid Khan has been summoned as a backup at the team managements request. Abrars unfortunate exit from play occurred during a first-class game against the Prime Ministers XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. Experiencing severe pain in his right leg around the knee, Abrar bowled 27 overs, claimed Marcus Harris, and conceded 80 runs. Following a medical assessment and an immediate MRI scan, it was determined that Abrar will undergo an intervention in Perth on Monday. While Abrar has not been ruled out of the entire Test series, his availability for the upcoming matches will be subject to further assessment. The PCB emphasized a commitment to the players well-being, acknowledging the importance of evaluating his condition for both the current tour and future engagements. Conservative rehabilitation under the supervision of the teams medical staff will follow the intervention. In response to the setback, off-spinner Sajid Khan has been enlisted as a replacement and is expected to join the squad in Perth once travel arrangements are finalized. Abrar Ahmed, with six Tests under his belt since his debut in December last year, had become a pivotal figure in Pakistans Test matches in Australia, amassing 38 wickets. As the team navigates this unexpected turn of events, the current Test squad relies on left-arm spinner Noman Ali, who has displayed his prowess with 47 wickets in 15 matches so far. The cricketing community awaits updates on Abrar Ahmeds recovery and potential participation in the ongoing series against Australia.
