EAM Jaishankar at UNGA 79 met 75 foreign ministers

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar wrapped up a fruitful week at the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79), where he interacted with 75 foreign ministers and representatives to promote global cooperation. During his visit to the United States, he participated in eight important meetings, including discussions with the G20, G4, India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA), BRICS, and the inaugural Joint Ministerial Meeting of the L.69 and C-10 groups. He also attended the India-CARICOM Foreign Ministers meeting, the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), and the India-CELAC meeting.

Jaishankar engaged in key events such as the Summit for Global Coalition to Address Synthetic Drug Threats and the signing of the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) Treaty. He delivered India’s national statement at the UNGA, addressing significant global issues and reiterating India’s commitment to reforming multilateralism. In his speech, he condemned Pakistan’s policies on Kashmir and cross-border terrorism.

After the assembly, Jaishankar shared a video highlighting his engagements and interactions at UNGA 79, emphasizing India’s commitment to global cooperation. The session, featuring foreign ministers from various nations, including the U.S., Russia, and China, focused on the theme Leaving no one behind: acting together for peace, sustainable development, and human dignity.
