Despite being eligible, numerous primary and high schools in the educational districts of Belagavi and Chikodi have been facing a shortage of physical education teachers since 2017.
The primary and high schools in Belagavi and Chikodi education districts have a total of 263 vacant posts for physical education teachers. The situation has given rise to concerns about the quality of physical education in these schools.

PE teacher posts at a total of 263 schools are currently vacant in both districts 164 government primary and high schools in Chikodi and 99 in Belagavi.

Children in private educational institutions get physical education but the facility is unavailable in many government schools. The parents of children studying in government schools say that students who are good at sports are not getting proper training due to lack of physical education teachers.
Vinodkumar, a parent from Kittur, said, two decades ago, physical education classes were being held every day in all government schools. Along with Scouts and Guides training, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, athletics and other sports. This helped many children in getting recognised as state and international level athletes. The government should seriously consider the requirement of physical education training for children in all schools to prevent the health issues caused by the current lifestyle.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction of Chikodi Mohan Kumar Hanchate said, it is true there has been no recruitment of PE teachers for many years but this year, we hope that a notification for filling up these posts will be made.
SD Gaanji, in-charge Deputy Director of Public Instruction,  Belagavi, said the government has not appointed physical education, art, craft and music teachers for many years. It is expected that it will take action for the appointment of teachers for these co-curricular activities.
