Congress Working Committee Member and Rajya Sabha MP Syed Naseer Hussain stressed the need to put an end to competitive communalism and work towards reinstating harmony and peace in the coastal districts. The majority and minority communalism are two sides of the same coin. Communal elements are found in all religions. There is a need to overcome it by establishing a secular system in society, he said.
The MP was speaking at the Congress Workers’ convention and felicitation ceremony of KPCC Working President Saleem Ahmed and Syed Naseer Hussain, organised by the minority wing of the District Congress Committee, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, at Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall.  Hussain stressed on the need to introspect for the Congress debacle in the assembly election in the coastal districts. There is a need for cultural and social intervention by bringing leaders from all quarters for discussion, to restore peace and communal harmony in the coastal districts. The communal forces are engaged in dividing society and polarisation. Even SDPI is engaged in dividing the society. If the situation continues, then the development of the region will face a setback, and no investment will come to the coastal districts, he said. “All the development projects in the district were taken up during the Congress tenure. Only Congress will be able to provide safety and protection to minorities and strengthen democracy, he claimed.
District Minister Dinesh Gundurao stressed upon the need for working on a separate strategy to counter communal politics and strengthen the Congress in the coastal districts. Congress has a challenge in the coastal districts, to win the hearts of the people, by working for the people and taking them into confidence, he said.
