The Gujarat High Court has rescheduled the interim bail application of Jaysukh Patel, the Managing Director of the Oreva Group and the key suspect in the tragic Morbi bridge collapse case. The decision to defer the application was made despite Patel’s pending regular bail plea.

Jaysukh Patel surrendered himself on January 31 following the devastating Morbi bridge collapse incident, which resulted in the loss of 135 lives in October of the previous year. The bridge, maintained and operated by his company, led to Patel facing allegations of culpable homicide.

The police’s charge sheet, submitted on January 27, directly implicated Patel in the supervision and direction of the repair and upgrade works related to the bridge.

Justice Divyesh Joshi, presiding over the case, indicated that the regular bail plea would be deliberated upon on October 27. Senior Advocate Nirupam Nanavaty, representing Patel, emphasized the court’s delay in addressing the regular bail plea, citing time constraints. In response, Justice Joshi suggested that the primary regular bail plea should proceed as scheduled, underscoring the need for a thorough and comprehensive examination of the matter.
