In an unfortunate incident on Wednesday afternoon, a 17-year-old boy, identified as Piyush Oberoi, drowned in the waters of the Arabian Sea at Mahim beach. The BMC Disaster Control reported the incident occurring around 2 p.m., with the youth being declared missing in the sea water.
Responding promptly, the Mumbai Fire Brigade and the Mahim Police initiated a rescue operation in the vicinity, close to the renowned Mahim Dargah. Despite valiant efforts spanning over three hours, the search operation concluded with the recovery of the youth’s lifeless body.
In a race against time, he was swiftly transported to Sion Hospital. However, tragically, any hopes of revival were dashed as he was pronounced dead upon admission. This incident has brought forth the importance of safety measures and vigilance in the coastal areas, urging authorities to reinforce preventive measures to avoid such heart-wrenching mishaps in the future.
