The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has welcomed the recommendation by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) confirming weightlifting’s inclusion in the program of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. This pivotal proposal is scheduled for a vote at the 141st IOC session to be held in Mumbai, India. IWF President Mohammed Jalood expressed his optimism, stating, We are encouraged by this crucial step forward in our efforts to fulfill the dreams of millions of young weightlifters worldwide. The IWF highlighted its months of productive discussions with IOC teams, emphasizing the comprehensive governance reforms and enhanced anti-doping initiatives implemented since the election of a new IWF president and Executive Board in June 2022. On behalf of these athletes and everyone within the global weightlifting community, we extend our gratitude to the IOC’s Olympic Program Commission, its Sport Department, and Executive Board for their fair and rigorous process and their guidance in helping us chart a new and promising future for our sport, President Jalood added.
