Brighton & Hove Albion’s manager, Roberto de Zerbi, expressed his pride in his team’s performance following their 2-2 draw against Olympique de Marseille in the Europa League, despite early struggles with the atmosphere in their first-ever European away game.

In the first half at Stade Velodrome, the hosts scored two quick goals, but Brighton mounted a comeback after the break, with Joao Pedro’s late penalty securing the draw. De Zerbi acknowledged that his team is not among the giants of European football but praised their efforts on the European stage.

We’ve reached this European competition playing very well, showing the incredible qualities of the players, De Zerbi stated. He also acknowledged that adapting to the atmosphere was challenging, especially given that it was Brighton’s first away game in Europe for the players, the club, and the fans.

Despite the draw, Brighton continues to occupy the bottom spot in Europa League Group B. Their recent performance was seen as a positive reaction following consecutive defeats: a 1-0 loss to Chelsea in the League Cup and a 6-1 thrashing by Aston Villa in the Premier League.

De Zerbi expressed his satisfaction with his players’ reaction, particularly after the 6-1 defeat, and now the team will turn its attention to a Premier League clash with Liverpool on Sunday. Brighton aims to continue improving and adapting to the challenges of European competition in the matches ahead.
