Members of the CPIML Red Star Party in Raichur protested against the decision to grant licenses to more than a thousand new liquor shops in the state. They initiated a letter movement at the Head Post Office, mailing letters to the Chief Minister demanding the withdrawal of the order to open new liquor shops. The activists strongly condemned the Excise Department’s decision, citing the negative impact of alcoholism on families, including homelessness, rising prices, poverty, and unemployment. They also expressed concern about the increase in violence and assaults on girls due to alcohol consumption. The protesters criticized the government for opening more liquor stores as a means to fund schemes and mobilize resources.
