Hangzhou

In her debut appearance at the Asian Games, former Asian champion and world championships medallist Parveen Hooda secured a bronze medal in the women’s 57kg boxing category after a unanimous 5:0 defeat against Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu Ting in the semifinal. The 23-year-old Indian fighter had previously triumphed over China’s Xu Zichun and Uzbekistan’s Sitora Turdibekova in the round of 16 and quarter-finals, respectively. Reigning world champion Lovlina Borgohain is set to compete for gold in the women’s 75kg final against the 2020 Olympic silver medallist Li Qian later in the day. It’s worth noting that both Lovlina and Parveen had already secured an Olympic quota for India for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
