Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday announced that strict action will be taken against individuals who make statements against other religions, particularly those that disturb communal harmony. During a press conference held after a cabinet meeting, Sawant emphasized the importance of respecting religious sentiments and avoiding criticism of other faiths. Nobody should criticize other religions. It is up to every individual to admire or worship the god of their choice. Neither Hindus nor Christians should speak against other religions. If people’s sentiments are disturbed by such statements, the government will take action. Nilesh Cabral, the PWD Minister and a politician from the Christian community, welcomed the Chief Minister’s stance, emphasizing the unity of all faiths in the region. Cabral expressed support for taking action against those who criticize other religions, whether they are religious leaders, individuals, or others. Recent incidents in Goa, such as the placement of an idol on church property without permission and a remark made by a Catholic priest regarding the Maratha warrior king Shivaji, have prompted discussions about the need for religious tolerance and the prevention of communal disharmony. Authorities are taking these matters seriously and pursuing legal action where necessary to maintain peace and respect among different religious communities in the state.
