Residents Demand Restoration Of Lung Spaces

All parks except Basaveshwara Park in residential area in the city are in bad shape. There has been no effort to renovate these public places despite requests made to the City Municipal Council (CMC) and City Development Authority.

There are no plants or trees growing in these parks. Also, stray animals and cattle easily enter these parks and deface these spaces in the absence of proper fencing and gates. People residing near the park said that the parks do not have proper paths and chairs. Trees here died due to the lack of care and maintenance.
Basavaraj Masur, a resident   expressed his unhappiness regarding the condition of the park. He said, one side boundary wall had not been constructed which brings in cattle, pigs and dogs. Also, parks have become a dumping ground. A park located in Basaveshwar Nagar  has a boundary, but there are no other facilities like walking paths, benches, and trees, this park has only weeds.

The residents have been demanding that the authorities maintain both parks, but they didn’t address our demands yet, he said.  He also alleged that they have noticed anti-social elements loitering in the park at night. The colony is inhabited by retired and senior citizens. They complained to the CMC in this regard already. Also, CMC authorities and elected representatives need to rejuvenate the parks with facilities for senior citizens, children and others,” he appealed.

CMC Commissioner Devaraj admitted the pathetic condition of the park and said, The work on the compound wall was deferred due to lack of grants. I noticed the condition of parks in the city, we will take necessary measures as early as possible, when a new administrative body comes to power.
