Any change in the society can only be enabled by journalists.He was speaking at the Press Day celebration and award ceremony organised by Dharwad District Union of Working Journalists (DDUWJ). He advised journalists to preserve and nurture the values of democracy.
Media Advisor to the Chief Minister, KV Prabhakar said that journalists should work like a bridge between the government and society and always support the underprivileged. Our constitution has provided freedom of expression but journalists should not misuse it by morphing news. Visual media have the responsibility of upholding the truth in this era of TRPs, he opined. Shivanand Tagadur, President of Karnataka Union of Working Journalists, observed that some miscreants are using journalism to blackmail people, and this rises questions on media.
Veteran Journalist Manoj Patil Kulkarni was honoured with a lifetime achievement award while another veteran Chandrika Naik was honoured with the Avva Seva Patrakarte award. As many as 18 working journalists of Dharwad district were conferred with annual awards in various categories. DDUWJ President Lochanesh Hugar, State Executive Member Ganapati Gangolli and others participated.
