The city will host 9th national conference of Shepherd India International on October 2 and 3.
Briefing the media about the event, former Ministers and top office bearers of the organisation, AH Vishwanath and HM Revanna said that there are 12 crore Kurubas across India but are known by different names in different states.
Shepherd India International was formed in 2014 with an aim to bring the members of the Kuruba community under one platform. The organisation was formed to formulate and implement programmes to encourage the economic, socio and political activities of the community, thereby ensuring its development, Vishwanath said.
So far, eight national conferences were held at different places, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The 9th national convention of the organisation will be held here on October 2 and 3. On the first day, a National Executive-level meeting will be held in which the leaders of the community from various states will participate. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be felicitated on the second day, he said.
We hope lakhs of people from across the country will participate in the conference scheduled to be held . The conference will be organised at the CPEd ground and Ministers, including Satish Jarakiholi and Laxmi Hebbalkar, MLAs, and others will cooperate for the successful conduct of the programme, he added.
The Kuruba community has been recognised in social, political, educational and economical spheres since the past. Kanakadasa and Sangolli Rayanna are popular names from the community in Karnataka. Maharani Ahalyabai Holkar from Indore, who revived Kashi Kshetra and contributed significantly to the installation of 12 Jyotirlingas, is being honoured by the Kuruba community in India, especially in North India, he said.
